Dear Parents/Guardians,

It was an exciting day yesterday, as we welcomed the sensational award-winning actor and singer-songwriter Idina Menzel, and her acclaimed author and teacher sister Cara Mentzel, to Lincoln School! Idina and Cara spent the afternoon at Lincoln, signing books, meeting with several students for an interview for an upcoming episode of “The Lions’ Den,” and sharing their wonderful new children’s book, Loud Mouse. A very special thanks to the bookstore Bookends in Ridgewood, for facilitating the visit, and Mrs. Husstege for coordinating the day. Please be sure to visit Bookends Bookstore to thank them for the special guests! Loud Mouse is a wonderful story of self acceptance and being true to yourself, lessons we can all appreciate. Sing loud!

Next week, Lincoln School  joins with schools throughout the state of New Jersey in recognizing the “Week of Respect.” Special lessons, activities, and dress-up days will help spotlight the themes of empathy, kindness, and respect. Please click here for a flyer with the dress-up days for next week.

Next week is National Walk and Bike to School Day! We are encouraging our Lincoln Lions to walk, bike or scoot to school on Thursday, October 6th, to join the nation in an event to promote physical activity and safety in neighborhoods near schools. There will be “refueling stations” at the bike rack and behind the school for all participants, as well as a chance to win a Lincoln Lion. Join your classmates and school children around the country and walk, bike or scoot to school.

The Lincoln PTO is sponsoring an “Outdoor Movie Night” next Friday, October 7th!  We hope to see our entire Lincoln community on the field for a showing of “Minions, The Rise of Gru.” This event, free of charge, will be a great kickoff to the year and an opportunity for families to come together for a fun night out. The “doors open” at 6:30, with a 7:00 start time. Bring flashlights and blankets or lawn chairs, and propcorn and water will be served. Please note that the playgrounds will be off-limits during the movie, for safety reasons, and that this is not a drop-off event. Click here for a flyer for more details. I look forward to seeing everyone next Friday night!

Please note that Grade 5 Studio Art will begin on 10/12, not 10/5, as we are closed on 10/5 in observance of Yom Kippur. Grade 4 Studio Art will begin on 10/6. If you have any questions, please reach out to Ms. Linz.

Our District will again be using an online method for payment of milk and recorders. Payment must be made by using PaySchools Central.  If you are not already registered for PaySchools Central, please click here and follow the prompts.  Please note that you will need your child’s 6-digit Student ID # which is located on the Parent Portal in Genesis next to your child’s picture.  If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Garofalo at 201-848-5720 ext. 2202 or email her at dgarofalo@wyckoffschools.org. The options for purchasing are:

Milk

Milk is offered to grades K-5 on a daily basis .  You can purchase milk for the entire year.  Milk will begin on Monday, September 19th.  The total is $110.00.

Recorders

Students in Grade 3 learn to play the recorder.  The recorder is a real instrument that is used as part of the 3rd grade music program throughout the district and will be useful in teaching the fundamentals of music and reading and ear training.  The cost of the recorder is $5.00.

Finally, as a reminder, all Wyckoff schools will be closed on Wednesday, October 5th, in observance of Yom Kippur. Have a wonderful weekend!

Sincerely,

Patrick Lee

Principal
