Dear Parents/Guardians,
Thank you to all of our parents that attended our annual “Back to School Night” this past Tuesday night! It was wonderful to welcome a full house to a more traditional Back to School Night this year. I hope that the evening gave you an opportunity to meet your child’s teacher(s) and learn more about some of the work we are doing here at LIncoln School. We truly value the home-school connection, and look forward to a wonderful year of collaboration.
Our 4th and 5th grade students will be taking the NJ Start Strong assessments, which are required state tests in both ELA and Mathematics, on Wednesday, September 28th, and Thursday, September 29th. The assessments, which should take approximately one hour on each day, share with us feedback that can assist in providing necessary support for students in specific learning standards. Please note that we will begin the assessments at the beginning of the school day.
I know that many of our students have watches (Gizmos, Apple watches, etc.) that have built in texting or phone calling capabilities. As a parent myself, I understand that communication with your child outside of school hours, particularly if he/she is walking or biking home, is important. As we have seen an increase in students using these devices for purposes that may distract them from their learning, however, students may be asked to place these in their backpack during the school day. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we want our students to be as focused as possible on their school work and the learning environment.
Please note that Grade 5 Studio Art will begin on 10/12, not 10/5, as we are closed on 10/5 in observance of Yom Kippur. Grade 4 Studio will begin on 10/6. If you have any questions, please reach out to Ms. Linz.
Our District will again be using an online method for payment of milk and recorders. Payment must be made by using PaySchools Central. If you are not already registered for PaySchools Central, please click here and follow the prompts. Please note that you will need your child’s 6-digit Student ID # which is located on the Parent Portal in Genesis next to your child’s picture. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Garofalo at 201-848-5720 ext. 2202 or email her at dgarofalo@wyckoffschools.org. The options for purchasing are:
Milk
Milk is offered to grades K-5 on a daily basis . You can purchase milk for the entire year. Milk will begin on Monday, September 19th. The total is $110.00.
Recorders
Students in Grade 3 learn to play the recorder. The recorder is a real instrument that is used as part of the 3rd grade music program throughout the district and will be useful in teaching the fundamentals of music and reading and ear training. The cost of the recorder is $5.00.
Finally, as a reminder, all Wyckoff schools are closed on Monday, September 26th, in observance of Rosh Hashanah. For all those observing, I wish you L’Shanah Tovah!
Have a wonderful weekend!
Sincerely,
Patrick Lee
Principal
