Dear Lincoln School Community,

As we prepare to celebrate School Staff Appreciation Week, beginning Monday, I’d like to take a moment to recognize the exceptional dedication of our entire staff. Day in and day out, they go the extra mile to ensure that Lincoln School remains a nurturing, supportive, and engaging environment for all students. Their commitment, care, and professionalism have a profound and lasting impact on our school community. Please join me in extending sincere appreciation to the remarkable individuals who make Lincoln School such a special place. Thank you, Lincoln staff, for making our school such a wonderful place to work and learn!

This was an exciting week at Lincoln School, particularly for several grade levels. Today, our second graders had a terrific time at their field trip to the Newark Museum of Art. Thank you to our teachers and parent volunteers for coordinating and chaperoning a wonderful trip for our students. On Thursday, our 5th grade students planned, organized, and facilitated an Ice Cream Social as their “5th Grade Giving Back” initiative. With the support of our school community, the 5th grade students raised funds to donate new additions to enhance outdoor learning spaces for our entire school community! Thank you to our students, our chairs, Mr. Powers, Mrs. Levine, and Mrs. Joudeh, the 5th grade teachers, and many parent volunteers for their assistance.

Students in grades three through five will be taking the New Jersey Standardized Learning Assessment-Adaptive (NJSLA-A) beginning on Tuesday, May 5th. Students should ensure that they have a working pair of headphones (that plug into an 3.5 mm aux input, non-bluetooth). The assessments will begin at the very start of the day, so please try to ensure that your son or daughter is at the school on time during testing. The Reading and Math assessments are composed of two 75 minute sessions, with the second session providing additional time for students that do not complete the assessment in the first session. The Writing assessment provides up to 90 minutes for students to complete a writing task. Fifth grade students only will take the Science assessment, which contains  four units, with up to 45 minutes allotted for each unit. Here are several tips and suggestions for students taking the NJSLA-A:

  • Make sure your child gets ample sleep the night before the assessment.

  • Provide a nutritious breakfast each morning.

  • Emphasize that your child should try to relax during the test and just do his/her very best.

  • Suggest that your child read each question carefully, and take his/her time on the assessment.

The testing schedule will be as follows:

Reading (Grades 3-5): May 5th

Writing (Grades 3-5): May 7th

Mathematics (Grades 3-5): May 13th

Science (Grade 5 Only): May 20th - May 21st

Families are invited to join us for our “Collaborative Family Art Night” scheduled for this coming Thursday, May 7th, from 5:00-6:30 pm in the Lincoln School MPR. This is an interactive evening for families to come together to make art. A second Art event, the Lincoln School Art Show, where student artwork will be displayed, is scheduled for Thursday, June 4th.

The New Jersey Department of Education has published an NJSLA-A Informational Session recording. You can access the recording on the New Jersey Assessment Portal by clicking here: New Jersey Assessment Information Session. Additionally, please click here to view the letter from Dr. Postma and Mrs. White which was shared previously regarding the NJSLA-A assessment.

Finally, for parents of current 5th graders, please note that the application for Subscription Busing to Eisenhower for the 2026-2027 school year will be available in mid-May 2026. It will be included in the Weekly Update in addition to being posted on the Eisenhower Middle School and Wyckoff Board of Education website. If you have any questions, please contact Nancy Meyer (201-848-5700 x6209).

Have a wonderful weekend!

Sincerely,

Patrick Lee

Principal
