Dear Lincoln School Community,
Students in all grades had a wonderful visit from author Chris Grabenstein yesterday. Thank you to Mrs. Husstege for all her hard work in planning the visit, and to our PTO for sponsoring this fan favorite event. Chris spoke about his tips for writing (never be boring, and hook your reader), his four elements of a great story (Oh!, Uh-Oh!, OH NO! and Ohhhhhhh), and his inspiration behind his best-selling children's books. Chris also enjoyed author lunch with his lucky winning students and loved answering all the students' questions. We are now all huge Chris Grabenstein fans!
Thank you to our parents and teachers for a successful first round of Parent/Teacher Conferences this week. Communication between school and home is vital to each student’s success. Conferences continue on November 17th, which will be a minimum day for all students.
On Wednesday morning, we will welcome the Ramapo High School Marching Band to Lincoln! The Marching Band will perform some of their numbers for our grades 3-5 students. We are lucky to have them join Lincoln and share their talents and experiences with our students. Students in grades 3-5 are invited to wear green to support our special guests. Go ‘Po!
The Lincoln School Student Council will again be hosting the “Golden Pencil”' fundraiser during the week of Thanksgiving to help purchase gifts for a needy child this holiday season, through the Social Service Association of Ridgewood and Vicinity. Please click here for more info!
As we head through the month and look ahead to December, we have a number of wonderful upcoming events. Please note some of the important dates listed below, including the 1st and 2nd Grade Holiday Vocal Music Program, the Holiday Mall, and the Grades 4 & 5 Holiday Choral Concert.
As you know, attendance is a critical part of a student's success in school. Of course, there are instances in which an absence is unavoidable (and as a parent of three high schoolers I empathize with you in regards to illness or needing to schedule appointments during school hours), but I thank you for being mindful of the value of regular school attendance. The state of New Jersey reports on school attendance yearly, identifying the percentage of students at each school who are "Chronically Absent." This term refers to students that are absent at the end of the year (for any reason) more than 10% of the days that school in session (this would be 19 in a typical school year). As we approach the 50th day of school, and to help keep parents informed on the attendance of their child, I will inform parents in the coming days if their child has been absent 10% or more of the school year. I will do the same several additional times during the year to help keep the lines of communication open between school and home. As always, if you have any questions please do not hesitate to reach out.
As a reminder, Monday, November 17th is a minimum day (1:05 pm dismissal) and November 18th is a delayed opening (10:20 am start time). Also, please note that Wednesday, November 26th is a minimum day, with a 1:05 dismissal. Kindergarten students will have lunch, as they do on all minimum days; however, Francesca’s Market (on Monday the 17th) and PTO Pizza Lunch (on Wednesday the 26th) will not be served, so please be sure to pack a lunch for your Kindergarteners.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Sincerely,
Patrick Lee
Principal
