Dear Lincoln School Community,
This coming Tuesday, our staff returns to Lincoln School to prepare for the opening of school on Wednesday, September 3rd. I am proud of all of our staff’s hard work and preparation for what I know will be an excellent school year. Thank you also to our custodial and maintenance staff for their tireless efforts over the course of the summer on not only cleaning the school but also a number of projects and updates. It takes a strong team to prepare for the school year, and we certainly have that in Wyckoff!
On Tuesday, we look forward to meeting our new students and families at our New Student Buddy Lunch, as well as our Kindergarten students and families at our Kindergarten Orientation. Thank you to Mrs. Soriano and our Kindergarten teachers for coordinating these special events. The Buddy Lunch, for new students in grades 1-5, will be held in the Multipurpose Room at 12 pm. Families may enter through the main office door. I will meet with our new parents and guardians during this time. Our Kindergarten students and families will meet on the Kindergarten blacktop at 2 pm, where their teachers will greet them and bring our students to their new classrooms. I ask students to refrain from using the playground equipment as they arrive for Orientation, although I know they will enjoy using it during the school year! I will then meet with Kindergarten parents and guardians during this time in the gymnasium. I look forward to seeing our newest Lincoln Lions on Tuesday!
As you know, the first day for students is on Wednesday, September 3rd. This is a minimum day, with a 1:05 pm dismissal. Thursday, September 4th and Friday, September 5th, are also minimum days, with a 1:05 pm dismissal. Please note some important information and reminders below:
School Hours
Regular Day: 8:50 am - 3:20 pm
Minimum Day: 8:50 am - 1:05 pm (No lunch for grades 1-5. Kindergarten students should bring lunch on minimum days. There is no Francesca Lunch Box or PTO lunch service on minimum days.)
Delayed Opening Day: 10:20 am - 3:20 pm (Lunch served for all students grades K-5.)
Arrival/Dismissal Procedures
Supervision for students begins at 8:35 am. Please do not drop your student off prior to 8:35 am. As we did in the prior two school years, students will line up indoors each day, which is consistent with all elementary schools in Wyckoff. Students may enter through the door by the Kindergarten awning, adjacent to the sidewalk, or through the Gr. 3/4 or Primary Wing doors, beginning at 8:35. From 8:35 - 8:40, students will line up, supervised, outside their classroom doors, and at 8:40 may enter the classroom to begin preparing for the school day. The school day begins at 8:50 am with Morning Meeting in each classroom. Please note that announcements and Morning Meeting will begin promptly, so make every effort to ensure your child is at school on time. Our Morning Meeting time has been reduced slightly this year to allow for more content area instructional time, and it is critical that students are at school and ready to learn!
On the first day of school, September 3rd, however, students will line up outside beginning at 8:35 and be greeted by their classroom teachers, who will bring them into the school building at 8:40 am. Students arriving between 8:40 and 8:50 AM will enter through their grade level doors, and after 8:50 must enter through the main office door. On the first day of school, Kindergarten students will line up on the K blacktop, grades 3 and 4 will line up outside the first entrance along the back driveway (outside the grade 3/4 classrooms), grade 5 will line up on the blacktop by the back basketball hoops, and grades 1 and 2 will line up outside the primary wing entrance adjacent to the path towards Rodney Road. There will be signs indicating the lineup spots for each HR.
On regular dismissal days, students will be dismissed from school at 3:20 pm. Kindergarten students will be dismissed out the door by the Kindergarten awning. Gr. 1 and 2 will be dismissed out the primary wing door by Rodney Road. Grades 3 and 4 will be dismissed out the Gr. 3/4 door along the back driveway (except 3M), and Gr. 5 and 3M will be dismissed out the door near the back of the media center.
Lunch/Recess
Gr. 1-5 students will eat lunch in the multipurpose room. Kindergarten students eat lunch in their classrooms. Francesca Lunch Box will be new this year as a lunch vendor, and our PTO will offer Wednesday Pizza Lunch from Natale’s as well as bagels from Goldberg’s Bagels on Mondays and Jersey Mike’s subs on Thursdays. Information will be sent from our PTO and in our e-blasts about these two programs, which will begin shortly after the start of the year.
This year, students in grades 2 & 3, and students in grades 4 & 5, will eat lunch and go to recess together. This is done at some of the other elementary schools in District, and provides for a more efficient use of staff to allow for increased supervision, as there will not be both a group at lunch and a group at recess simultaneously. Grades K and 1 will go to recess and eat lunch (grade K in their classrooms, and grade 1 in the Multipurpose Room) with their own grade level. While there may be some adjustments and refinements as we go through the lunch/recess procedures at the start of the year, I am confident that it will be a positive change. We also have some new recess equipment that I believe our students will enjoy!
If you have not accessed your child’s homeroom teacher and important forms via Genesis, please access the Parent Portal by clicking here. Contact the Genesis Helpdesk at genesis@wyckoffps.org with any difficulties.
Finally, I am excited to begin another wonderful year at Lincoln School, and feel honored to serve as Principal. The school building is cleaned and gleaming, the classrooms are organized and prepared, the newly painted blacktop looks terrific, and the staff is energized and ready to welcome back our students. Lincoln is a special place to learn and work, and I am grateful to partner with all of you as we head into the school year. Have a wonderful Labor Day weekend, and I look forward to seeing our Lincoln Lions on Wednesday morning!
Sincerely,
Patrick Lee
Principal
