Dear Lincoln School Community,
I have some exciting news to share with the Lincoln community. Thanks to the generosity and support of our Lincoln PTO, we are getting a makeover in our Multi-Purpose Room and Gymnasium! Painters from Yellow Door Art Studio will be at Lincoln over the next few days to add color, personality, and school spirit to our walls. I can’t wait to share the exciting updates with our community, and am most grateful once again to our PTO. Stay tuned for an unveiling in the coming week!
Please be sure to check out our Friday folder for a flyer from Girl Scout Troop 98234. The Girl Scouts have met with me and made a compelling presentation to try to reduce single-use plastic during the week of November 18th by encouraging students to bring utensils to school that week for snack/lunch. More information will be shared soon, and thank you to our Girl Scouts for trying to “Be the Change!”
As a reminder, all schools will also be closed tomorrow, Thursday, November 7th and Friday, November 9th for the NJEA Teachers Convention.
As a reminder, there is no school for the students on Monday, November 11th due to Parent/Teacher conferences. In addition, November 18th is a minimum day (1:05 pm dismissal) and November 19th is a delayed opening (10:20 am start time).
Parent-Teacher Conferences
By now, you should have arranged a time and date for a conference with your child’s homeroom teacher. Please feel free to reach out to any special area teacher or other staff member via email to set up a separate conference with them. The Staff Directory can be found here.
Here are some reminders and guidelines on how you can make the most out of your upcoming conference:
● Parents should enter via the main entrance and sign in at the office. Please be prompt and contact your child’s teacher immediately if you have to reschedule. If you arrive late to a conference it will necessitate a shorter conference as our teachers are on a very tight schedule and don’t want to cut into anyone else’s conference time.
● Prior to the conference, think about any questions you might have and consider emailing the teacher ahead of time so he/she can be prepared to discuss your questions.
● Fall conferences are a time to discuss progress to date and map out goals for what’s ahead. It’s only November, so your child should be approaching grade-level standards and may not have mastered them at this time. Be realistic about their goals, celebrate what your children are doing well, and share a growth mindset for what’s ahead.
● If you have questions that you know will go beyond your allotted time, respectfully request that you have a follow-up phone call.
Keep the lines of communication open with your child(ren)'s teachers and the school throughout the year. It is when we communicate, collaborate, and work together that we see tremendous student growth and progress.
Most importantly, don’t forget to celebrate with your child after the conference. Have a conversation with your child to let them know how proud you are of them and share goals and anything you hope to do to continue supporting their growth as a partner with the school. We look forward to seeing you all at the November conferences!
Finally, Happy Veterans Day and thank you to all of the veterans in the Lincoln School community for your service to our country! I hope you all have a wonderful four-day weekend!
Sincerely,
Patrick Lee
Principal
