Dear Parents/Guardians,

I hope that this email finds you and your family well, and that you are enjoying the last days of a happy and healthy summer! It has been a busy summer at Lincoln School, and we are excitedly preparing for the return of our Lincoln Lions. As a reminder, our school day is from 8:50 am until 3:20 pm, with supervision beginning at 8:35 am. Our minimum days begin at 8:50 am, with dismissal at 1:05 pm. Special thanks to our terrific custodial and maintenance departments for their hard work in cleaning and preparing our schools for our opening. Additional information and specifics regarding the opening of the school year, including drop-off and pickup procedures, will be provided to parents in a second E-blast letter prior to the first day of school on September 5th, but I wanted to share a few updates and pieces of information at this time.

On September 4th at 2 pm, we invite our incoming Kindergarten students and their parents to our annual "Kindergarten Orientation." Parents and students will meet on the Kindergarten blacktop to the right of the awning next to the main parking lot, where our teachers will greet our students and begin their year together as a class, spending some time in the classroom. I will meet with parents/guardians during the orientation, which should last approximately 45 minutes. On September 3rd at 12 pm, our new students in grades 1-5 are invited to our “New Student Buddy Pizza Lunch,” which will be held in our Multi-Purpose Room. Students, accompanied by a parent or guardian, may enter through the main entrance. I will also meet with our new parents during the lunch, which should last for approximately 45 minutes. Thank you to Mrs. Soriano, our School Counselor, for organizing a fun afternoon for our new students.

In addition to welcoming new students, we welcome several new teaching staff members to Lincoln School. Mr. Anthony Cornetta joins us as a Physical Education teacher, accompanying Mr. White in the PE department. Mr. Cornetta will work with students at both Lincoln and Washington Schools. We also welcome Mrs. Heather Flanagan, who will serve as a technology teacher for students at both Lincoln and Washington Schools. Finally, Mrs. Charlotte Vozza joins the Lincoln faculty as a Special Education Teacher. In addition to these teaching staff members, we will also have several new instructional aides joining us at Lincoln School this year. Welcome to all of our new Lincoln Lions - staff and students alike!

As you know, limiting distractions to the educational learning environment is extremely important for our students to meet academic and social/emotional success. With that being said, please note that beginning this year in all District elementary schools, Gizmo, Apple Watches, and other types of Smartwatches are not permitted to be worn by students during the school day, and students are not permitted to carry cell phones. Students will be asked to place their Smartwatch and/or cell phone in their backpacks if brought to school. If urgent, you may relay a message to your child by calling the main office. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we want our students to be as focused as possible on their school work and the learning environment.

Please note that the Genesis parent portal will be open for parents to view homerooms at approximately 3 pm on Monday, August 26, 2024, after they complete their child/children’s respective school form on Genesis. All parents must log on and fill out the respective school form for each child prior to being able to see their child’s homeroom. The form must be completely filled out and submitted for ALL children prior to viewing any tabs on Genesis. One of the forms that must be selected is for either “escorted” or “unescorted” dismissal. Please note that traditional dismissal in which the teacher brings students outside to be dismissed is termed “unescorted.” “Escorted” dismissal requires the student to be dismissed from the main office, and signed out by a parent or guardian. If you have any questions regarding the dismissal selection, please reach out to the main office.  New families will be receiving their Genesis parent portal logon information in a separate email from the IT department prior to the opening of the parent portal. The homeroom sections for the upcoming school year are as follows:

Any forms or documentation for the school nurse, Mrs. Doidge, may be emailed to Mrs. Doidge at cdoidge@wyckoffschools.org, or dropped off at the main office in advance of the first day of school. Please call the school before dropping them off to ensure that the building is accessible. Should you have any questions, please reach out to Mrs. Doidge via email.

Finally, as summer draws to a close, I am reflecting on our theme for the upcoming school year: “Be the Change.” Our school is one filled with so many positive changemakers, making our learning community one that is a wonderful place to learn, play, and work. I can’t wait to reunite as a Lincoln School family and continue our educational journey together. Please enjoy the remaining days of summer, and I will be in touch soon with additional specifics and information before our first day of school on September 5th!

Sincerely,

Patrick Lee
