Dear Lincoln School Community,
Students in grades three through five will be taking the New Jersey Standardized Learning Assessment (NJSLA) beginning on Tuesday, May 7th. If they have not already done so, please have your child bring in a pair of headphones in a ziplock bag marked with his/her name on it. The assessment will begin at the very start of the day, so please try to ensure that your son or daughter is at the school on time during testing. The assessments, which include English Language Arts, Mathematics, and Science (Gr. 5 only) last between 60 and 90 minutes each morning. Here are a few helpful hints for a successful assessment experience:
Make sure your child gets ample sleep the night before the assessment.
Provide a nutritious breakfast each morning.
Emphasize that your child should try to relax during the test and just do his/her very best.
Suggest that your child go back to double check answers prior to submitting the test, and take his/her time on the assessment.
The testing schedule will be as follows:
English Language Arts (Grades 3-5): May 7th - May 8th
Science (Grade 5 Only): May 9th - May 10th
Mathematics (Grades 3-5): May 14th - May 16th
Please note that the Art Show has a revised date of June 6, 2024 instead of Thursday, May 9th. The Show will be open from 6:00-8:00 pm. Please mark your calendars, we hope to see you there!
The PTO Meeting on Thursday, May 9th will be a virtual meeting, due to NJSA testing occurring at that time. The PTO will provide a Zoom link for all those who would like to attend the meeting. Mr. Faehndrich, the Eisenhower Middle School principal, will be a guest at next Thursday’s meeting.
The spring “Bike and Walk to School Day” for all students and the annual “Bike Safety Rally” for grades 4 and 4 are both scheduled for Monday, May 13th. Please be sure that your child’s bicycle is in good working order and that they have a well fitting helmet. There will be a series of obstacle course stations for our 3rd and 4th graders in addition to a safety assembly for several Wyckoff Police Officers.
We look forward to seeing many of our families at the 5th grade’s production of the musical Aladdin on Thursday, May 23rd. The matinee for students and staff will be held at 2:00 pm, and the evening show for families and guests will be held at 7:00 pm in the Lincoln School gymnasium. In addition, our 4th and 5th grade Spring Instrumental Band Concert will be held on Tuesday, June 4th. Performances of the Spring Instrumental Band Concert will also be at 2:00 pm for students and 7:00 pm for guests.
Thank you to all who attended the annual “PTO Ladies Night Out” this past Thursday night, as well as our PTO chairs and volunteers for their hard work. I am grateful to all of our families and community members for your continued support of our school.
Please note that there is no parking on Lucas Lane between the hours of 2 pm and 4 pm on school days. This is to not only allow for traffic to flow down Lucas Lane following dismissal, but also provide for increased visibility as students walk and ride from school. Please be sure to adhere to this and other parking signs posted in the surrounding neighborhoods. Thank you in advance for your cooperation!
Sincerely,
Patrick Lee
Principal
