Dear Lincoln School Community,

We are looking forward to another terrific “Dads’ Night” at Lincoln School this evening! Doors open at 6:30 pm, with a 7:00 show time. Thank you in advance to our Dads, who put in countless hours preparing for tonight’s show to benefit Lincoln School and bring our community together. Special appreciation goes to Mr. Ramos and Mr. Jachens, our Dads’ Night Chairs.  Thank you also to our PTO, custodians, and staff for their support.

Thank you to all who attended the Harlem Wizards game last night, held at Ramapo High School. The Harlem Wizards took on staff from our four elementary schools, the “Wyckoff Net Ninjas,” in a PTO fundraiser to support our schools. Special thanks to all who volunteered, including our staff players, in a fun evening of hoops and hilarity!

A Connected Parent Series event, the Lincoln Family Art Night, is scheduled for April 26th at 5 pm here in the Lincoln MPR. In order for Mr. Castellano to plan for the event with the appropriate amount of supplies, we are asking for you to indicate if you plan on being in attendance. Please click here to access a Google form and indicate if you and your child(ren) will be at Lincoln Family Art Night on April 26th!

On Monday, April 8th, a solar eclipse will occur throughout the United States, including a partial eclipse here in New Jersey, providing a unique learning opportunity for our students. A solar eclipse happens when the moon passes between the sun and the Earth, partially or completely blocking the sun's light. Even if the sun isn't visible that day, the sky will get dark — starting around 2:09 p.m. and reaching maximum dimness at about 3:25 p.m. (the eclipse will end around 4:37 p.m.)

You will see that maximum dimness will occur around our dismissal time. While we will not hold a formal viewing event that day, we will provide approved solar viewing glasses to all students and staff members so that they have adequate eye protection at dismissal. These glasses meet the ISO 12312-2 international standard for filters for direct observation of the sun. Staff in all grade levels will walk students out their designated dismissal door at pickup, which will be a regular dismissal on this day. Parents and guardians are welcome to bring their own solar safety glasses and view the eclipse!

Teachers will incorporate lessons about solar eclipses into their curriculum, allowing students to learn about the science behind this phenomenon and its significance. I encourage you to talk to your child about the solar eclipse and the importance of following safety guidelines during dismissal. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Please note that our Kindergarten Sibling preview, for the siblings of all current Lincoln students who are registered to attend Kindergarten during the 2024-2025 school year, will be held on the morning of Wednesday, May 22nd.  A letter will be sent home within the next week or so with the exact times assigned.

Sincerely,

Patrick Lee
Principal
