Dear Lincoln School Community,
On Wednesday, our 3rd and 4th grade students put on a terrific concert to usher in the spring season. A combination of recorder-playing by our 3rd graders, select renditions by our 4th Grade Chorus, and songs by all students in both grade levels, led to not just one, but two amazing performances. A huge thank you to Mrs. Panzitta for directing our talented students.
Scientific exploration and creativity were on full display last evening at our Gr. 3-5 Science Fair! It was a wonderful evening of learning, and such a fun celebration of the creativity and talents of our studentws. Thank you to Mrs. Joudeh for organizing this year's event. We already can't wait for next year!
This afternoon, we held a “Schoolwide Closing Circle” to end both the week and the “Lincoln Loves Reading” month celebrating literacy. A “Closing Circle” is a structure in Responsive Classroom in which the community comes together for three purposes: reflection, celebration, and closing. Our students met their reading challenge for the month (reading the height of every adult in the school) so as promised I dressed as a ‘dog’ for the day in honor of the schoolwide book Fenway and Harriet! At our Closing Circle, we reflected on the month of reading, celebrated our “golden ticket” and Core Value winners, and closed with a read aloud of the book The Incredible Book Eating Boy, by Oliver Jeffers. Thank you again to Mrs. Husstege for helping to lead our “Lincoln Loves Reading” month, our PTO for purchasing our schoolwide books, and our staff, students, and families for their enthusiasm and participation. Keep reading, Lincoln Lions!
A Connected Parent Series event, the Lincoln Family Art Night, is scheduled for April 26th at 5 pm here in the Lincoln MPR. In order for Mr. Castellano to plan for the event with the appropriate amount of supplies, we are asking for you to indicate if you plan on being in attendance. Please click here to access a Google form and indicate if you and your child(ren) will be at Lincoln Family Art Night on April 26th!
On Monday, April 8th, a solar eclipse will occur throughout the United States, including a partial eclipse here in New Jersey, providing a unique learning opportunity for our students. A solar eclipse happens when the moon passes between the sun and the Earth, partially or completely blocking the sun's light. Even if the sun isn't visible that day, the sky will get dark — starting around 2:09 p.m. and reaching maximum dimness at about 3:25 p.m. (the eclipse will end around 4:37 p.m.)
You will see that maximum dimness will occur around our dismissal time. While we will not hold a formal viewing event that day, we will provide approved solar viewing glasses to all students and staff members so that they have adequate eye protection at dismissal. These glasses meet the ISO 12312-2 international standard for filters for direct observation of the sun. Staff in all grade levels will walk students out their designated dismissal door at pickup, which will be a regular dismissal on this day. Parents and guardians are welcome to bring their own solar safety glasses as well and view the eclipse!
Teachers will incorporate lessons about solar eclipses into their curriculum, allowing students to learn about the science behind this phenomenon and its significance. I encourage you to talk to your child about the solar eclipse and the importance of following safety guidelines during dismissal. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact me.
We will have a bonus “Lincoln Spirit Wear” day on Monday, April 1st. Students, please wear any Lincoln Spirit gear or the colors blue/gray to show your Lincoln pride on Monday.
Please note that all District schools will be closed tomorrow, Friday, March 29th. I extend my best wishes for a Happy Easter to those members of our community who are observing the holiday.
Sincerely,
Patrick Lee
Principal
