Dear Lincoln School Community,

I hope you had a wonderful week! We have a number of fun events planned for the upcoming week. On Tuesday, January 16th, our Fifth Grade Lincoln School Advanced Band members will perform their first instrumental concert of the year. Students in grades K-3 will attend the 10:00 am performance, and parents and guests along with our students in grades 4 and 5 will attend the 2:00 pm performance. On Thursday evening, our annual PTO Military Bridge event will take place in the Lincoln School gym. I look forward to seeing many of our parents in attendance, and thank the PTO in advance for their hard work in organizing this evening.

Lincoln School will be participating with other schools around the District in a pilot of the diagnostic and instructional program i-Ready. At Lincoln, students in grades 2-5, as well as several other classrooms in grades K-1, will be taking the i-Ready diagnostic assessment this month in lieu of the AimswebPlus assessment. I-Ready is an adaptive assessment (in which questions adjust in difficulty based upon progress) that is used to identify both areas of strength and opportunities for growth. It also contains an online instructional platform that contains personalized lessons and resources based upon the student’s diagnostic results. We are looking forward to piloting this program and identifying its effectiveness in supporting our students and their academic progress.

The intramural scooter football season is in full swing here at Lincoln School, with our students looking forward to “Scooter Bowl 30” in a month or so! I am thrilled that so many of our 4th and 5th graders not only participate in scooter football, but also want to come watch the games as spectators. In recent weeks, however, the number of student spectators has increased and become a concern in terms of supervision and safety. In order to ensure that all students are supervised, any student spectators (this does not include players of that day’s game) must be accompanied by a parent or adult chaperone. This may include a parent, grandparent, babysitter, family friend/neighbor, etc. I want our students to enjoy the wonderful games played at Lincoln after school, but most importantly want to ensure that they are safe and looked after in case of an emergency or other need. Again, this does not apply to players - those participating in that day’s game are under the supervision of Mr. Patanella and Mr. White. Thank you in advance for your cooperation and understanding, and please reach out to me with any questions.

Please be sure to check out the Friday Folder for the latest “Wyckoff Connected Parent Series” workshop offerings.  We hope to see you there!

Please note that all schools will be closed for students on Monday, January 15th in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Day.  As we commemorate the life of Dr. King, I reflect upon a quote of his that reads:  “The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically.  Intelligence plus character - that is the goal of true education.”  Thank you for partnering with our staff as we work each day towards this goal, and for your continued support and collaboration.

Sincerely,

Patrick Lee
Principal
