Dear Lincoln School Community,

Next week, Lincoln School  joins with schools throughout the state of New Jersey in recognizing the “Week of Respect.” Special lessons, activities, and dress-up days will help spotlight the themes of empathy, kindness, and respect. Please click here for a flyer with the dress-up days for next week.

Next week is also National Walk and Bike to School Day! We are encouraging our Lincoln Lions to walk, bike or scoot to school on Wednesday, October 4th, to join the nation in an event to promote physical activity and safety in neighborhoods near schools. There will be “refueling stations” at the bike rack and behind the school for all participants, as well as a chance to win a Lincoln Lion. Join your classmates and school children around the country and walk, bike or scoot to school!

The Lincoln PTO is sponsoring an “Outdoor Movie Night” next Friday, October 6th!  We hope to see many in our Lincoln community on the field for a showing of The Super Mario Bros. Movie. This event, free of charge, will be a great kickoff to the year and an opportunity for families to come together for a fun night out. The “doors open” at 6:30, with a 7:00 start time. Bring flashlights and blankets or lawn chairs, and propcorn and water will be served. Please note that the playgrounds will be off-limits during the movie, for safety reasons, and that this is not a drop-off event. Click here for a flyer for more details. I look forward to seeing everyone next Friday night!

The school photographer will be back at Lincoln School, Wednesday, October 25th, at 10:30 am for retakes. The photographer will retake pictures of those students who were absent, who are new to the district, whose eyes were closed or who had hair in their face for the photograph, or for those parents who personally contacted the photographer requesting a retake. Please email Mrs. DiMeglio at mdimeglio@wyckoffschools.org if your child will be taking a retake picture.

This year, we are highlighting a different “Core Value'' each month here at Lincoln School. During September, our core value is “Responsibility.” We share these core values during our Words of Wisdom, in our classrooms, and throughout the school building. Each week, we select a trait that corresponds to this core value, and helps define it for our students. The trait that went along with “Responsibility” this past week was “Resolving Conflict.” A quote that helped support the trait this week was, “Love is the only force capable of turning an enemy into a friend,” by Martin Luther King, Jr. Thank you for supporting our Core Values by discussing them with our students at home as well!

You may have noticed that the crosswalks in the parking lot have been repainted after the paving work was completed at the end of the summer. Please be mindful of using these crosswalks (and encourage your children to do the same) when moving from the parking lot to the sidewalk, both in the morning as well as in the afternoon at dismissal. Likewise, please be alert when driving through the lot. The safety and wellbeing of our students is my utmost priority, and I thank you in advance for your cooperation!

Finally, it is with great sadness that I learned recently of the passing of Charlie Wisloh, a crossing guard who worked in conjunction with the Wyckoff Police Department and served the Lincoln district for many years. “Mr. Charlie” crossed countless Lincoln Lions and their families as they traversed Lucas Lane. On behalf of Lincoln School, we send our deepest condolences to Charlie’s families and friends.  Please click here to view the obituary of Charlie Wisloh, may he rest in peace.

Have a wonderful weekend, stay dry!

Sincerely,

Patrick Lee
Principal
